Blazing new Trails in Oklahoma June 2009

CowboyHowdy from the Great State of Oklahoma!

Dust off your boots and spurs and get ready to saddle up for the 2009 ASDC convention in Oklahoma.  Your spirit of adventure will ignite as you join the Oklahoma School for the Deaf (OSD) as we host the 2009 biennial conference for the American Society for Deaf Children set for June 24 – 28, 2009.

Through our “Blazing New Trails” theme, we will strive to ensure the development and continued support for each other by bringing together families, professionals and members of the community.  We plan to focus on the newest research and trends happening in deaf education.  We are planning many activities and special surprises that will capture our Sooner flavor and hospitality.

WaterfallThis year’s registration form is a little different.  We have included the meals in the registration cost due to limited availability of restaurants in the area.  While the registration fee may seem strange with the meals included, we have kept the total costs less than the 2007 conference.  Additionally, many of the evening activities have meals included as part of event theme.

OSD is nestled in Sulphur, OK, a small town in southeast OK.  Lodging and restaurants are limited in the town itself.  While small in population, we think Sulphur is pretty special.  It’s very common to see signing and talking in the local coffee shop, or a prescription filled by a signing pharmacy technician.

A river through a meadowWe are very proud of our OSD campus and can offer approximately 60 rooms – availability for rooms will be first come, first serve basis.  Each dorm room has from 2 – 5 beds.  Large families who wish to stay in the dorm are encouraged to register early.   In the Sulphur/Davis area there are two hotels, several bed and breakfasts, cabins and campgrounds.  The city of Ardmore is near Sulphur and has more lodging options.  We will be running shuttles from Ardmore to the campus.

Where ever you stay, you will find our area is filled with hidden treasures – we’d just love to show you!

From beautiful waterfalls to safari adventures, get “fired up” to visit the great state of Oklahoma in 2009.   We look forward to seeing you “Blazing New Trails” with us at the ASDC Conference.
