OSD COUNSELOR
Counseling at the Oklahoma School for the Deaf
includes individual counseling, group counseling, and crisis
intervention counseling. The OSD counselor coordinates a
variety of tests throughout the school year: the Stanford
Achievement Test with Hearing Impaired norms; the ACT college
entrance exam; EPAS testing (PLAN- 10th grade and
EXPLORE – 8th grade) and vocational and interest
assessments. The counselor also coordinates the ordering,
distribution, collection and return of all state mandated (CRT)
test materials. In addition the OSD counselor serves as a resource for the
families of students.
The school counselor serves as liaison between
high school students and Vocational Rehabilitation counselors
and other organizations serving our students (mental health,
etc.). The OSD counselor assists in the development of the
Transition component of IEP’s.
Additional activities of the OSD counselor
include the planning of college fairs and post-secondary tours
for high school students, assisting seniors with applications
for admission to college, financial aid applications, and
employment applications; planning and coordinating special
programs such as Red Ribbon Week; and special research projects
requested by the administration.
Students can be served on a self referral basis
or may be referred by teachers, dorms staff, parents, and
administrators. Students in ISS (In School Suspension) are
automatically referred for counseling services. |
